Contemporary Art Engagement

Have you noticed that spending time in a museum makes you calm and focused? Have you often felt that looking at artworks, really looking, ignites a little fire in your brain? That discussing a topic with others gives you a sense of connection and wellbeing?

Then my contemporary art engagement program is for you.

An art engagement program using the artworks of our time, Sabine’s sessions are centred around the idea of object-based looking: taking time to be with each artwork to let its stories and our reactions unfold.

Upcoming Art Tours

Artist studio visit - Three artists at Gasworks: Lucía Pizzani, Lucrecia Lionti and Alice Medelowitz

Saturday 3rd May, 11.00-12.30

£30 per person
Free for children under 18

Meeting Point: Gasworks, 155 Vauxhall Street, SE11 5RH (nearest tube: Oval)

Join me for an exclusive studio visit with three artists who are part of Gasworks exciting residency program. Lucía Pizzani moved to London from Venezuela in 2007, but the influence of South America remains present in all her works. Having studied conservation biology in Venezuela and been involved with an environmental NGO there for many years, Pizzani strongly believes in the connectedness of all living things: plants, animal and human. Pizzani’s work is in the Tate collection and an exciting outdoor installation of sculptures is currently on view in the historic gardens of Harewood House. We will also visit two emerging artists. Lucrecia Lionti is an Argentinian artist who works with everyday textiles in which she often includes text related to the materials’ social history. Alice Mendelowitz is a London-based artist working in paint, with a particular interest in the physicality of painting and how that reflects the body.

Afterwards there will be the opportunity to visit the Gasworks exhibition by Nolan Oswald Dennis (free entry).

ART TO MIND Tour - Kristina Kimeze at South London Gallery

Wednesday 30th April, 3.00-4.30pm

£20*
Free for children under 18

Meeting point: South London Gallery, 65 Peckham Road, SE5 8UH

Discover the radiant, textured paintings of Christina Kimeze at the South London Gallery, at her first solo exhibition in the UK. Between Wood and Wheel brings together a new series of paintings and works on paper. Originally inspired by the resurgence of roller skating in Black communities, the series explores ideas of freedom, flight and escape, particularly from a female perspective. Kimeze’s vibrant paintings and a newly commissioned tapestry invite us to reflect on the shifting nature of our relationship to our inner lives and how thoughts, feelings and memories might be visualised.

*This tour is part of ART TO MIND - my program of art engagement for mental wellbeing, and priced at a more accessible level. The pace of the tour will be adapted to the group’s needs.

Private Art Tours

The Art Tours are 2hrs long and take place on site, visiting a museum, a few smaller galleries, or public artworks outside. The sessions are inclusive, fun and engaging. By closely looking at artworks, we will unravel the mysteries and pleasures of art together. The tours will offer a safe space in which you can think, talk and make new connections, and connect with other art lovers.

Art Engagement Sessions

The Engagement sessions are 1 hour long and theme-based. They are brought to you either on Zoom or in the classroom. The theme is attuned to the interests of your audience. An A-level art history class? We will pick a theme that is current in the curriculum and use contemporary artworks to shine a new light on preconceived ideas. An organisation with immigrant learners? We can talk about artworks by immigrant artists and how their rich experiences of being part of different cultures forms the basis and strength of their work. Whatever your interest and needs, my sessions aim to make the art experience relevant for YOU.
