Art Advisory
Art Advisory for Emerging Collectors: helping you find pieces you'll want to live with for a long time
Do you go weak in the knees at the smell of oil paint? Do you like art that takes you away to a place of contemplation, or art that engages you with difficult topics? Do do want to create a salon-style selection of smaller works or limited editions, or are you looking for that one special artwork that really makes a statement in your home?
Let’s start talking.
Meaningful Collecting
Fifteen years of leading gallery tours, visiting artists in their studios, and guiding contemporary art collectors at Frieze Art Fair - one of the busiest weeks in the contemporary art calendar - has given me a unique insight into the art market and the works of art that are likely to increase in value over time. But equally important, teaching contemporary art, writing for art magazines, and interviewing artists, I know the artists who are getting attention in the museums and institutions too.
Although financial considerations are important, I strongly believe that collecting art can add deeper meaning to our lives. After all, we tend to live with the artworks in our homes for a very long time. Buying from emerging artists, you are not just giving crucial support to an artist at an early stage of their career; you can also choose to stay involved, visiting them in their studios or attending their exhibitions. I strongly believe that, in our fast-paced and capitalist world, it is rewarding to have that deeper level of engagement and connection with art.
Experience with Emerging Artists
From 2021-2024 I worked as art consultant for Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, where I curated a new rehang of the ground floor Atrium, acquired artworks for the collection, and facilitated two new commissions at West Middlesex Hospital by artists Lucia Pizzani and Hannah Lim.
Alongside my professional art activities, I am also building my own art collection. I started with smaller pieces and limited editions under £1,000, and gradually moving to larger works up to £10,000. I have direct experience of what it takes to start a collection: the excitement and the pitfalls, the questions you ask yourself and the lessons you learn along the way. Over time, I developed a direction for the kind of work I want to collect and the artists whose way of thinking excites me. I am passionate about sharing the great artworks I encounter daily with you.
A selection of artworks I facilitated for CW+: Alexis Harding, Alicia Paz, Hannah Lim, and Lucia Pizzani & Jaime Gili.
